Diploma in Records and Information Management
Programme Description
This programme is meant to prepare the learners in the management of records and management of information in Institutions both public and private sector. It covers the aspects of library and information, library classification, records organisation and processing,
library cataloguing, theory and practice, marketing of information, preservation and conservation of records, Medical records Management, Management of library and information centers, Museology, Reprography and Paper making and Management of Electronic Records among others.
Programme Justification
As Uganda’s economy continues to grow, it needs a skilled records and information management labour force. The largest proportion of the skills that are required are those ofpeople who can manage to keep records and manage information in order to help the business organizations reduce on wastage of resources like having big storage space for manual paper
files, streamline record keeping for proper accountability and accuracy of records, facilitate faster information retrieval, and also design better information systems for easy management of information flow, enhanced data security and future planning; Uganda needs capable, competent and committed records and information management workers to handle technical & operational record work in the government and private private sector industry. The Diploma in Records and Information management should fill in the gap. This program will include imparting learners with records and Information management skills, skills on management of Electronic records, how to identify a variable data processing model and analyse it to fit the needs of the communities which will lead to identification of a better matrix to help get better information data modelling for better project identification leading to information processing for intelligence gathering, artificial intelligence analysis of data to better help the communities and reduce future project failure rates due to limited data processing, information management helps the country analyse the available data in order to get the real target audience and the pressing needs of the citizens.
Programme Objectives
The aim of this programme is:
i.To impart learners with Records and information Management skills.
ii.To explore the principles and guidelines of how to manage records.
iii.To equip learners with knowledge and skills on how to manage and improve data management in information centers to improve on their general management.
iv.To prepare learners for lifelong learning
Programme Learning Outcomes
By the end of the programme, learners should be able to;
i.Apply Records and Information Management skills.
ii.Demonstrate principles and guidelines of successful management of Electronic records.
iii.Apply knowledge and skills acquired towards effective data management technologies
like filing, cataloging, sorting, data mining and analysis.
iv.Pursue further studies.
